Interdisciplinary dvs experts workshop:
“Physical Activity, Research and Public Health” – a transdisciplinary exchange on status quo and development perspectives
February 8, 2022, 10:00 – 17:15

The first roots of “sport and public health” in sports science and health sciences go back to the 1980s of the 20th century. Despite some significant successes for sports science – with a stronger focus on public health in research and practice – there has been little discussion about how the opportunities and resources available in the field of public health have been used within sports science in the scientific and practical application context since then. At the same time, the societal challenge of sustainable and health equity oriented physical activity promotion in the context of health promotion has been taken up by other sciences, e.g. the health sciences. Here, too, has been little discussion about similarities, differences and the resulting opportunities for scientific disciplines and social impacts. The Prevention Act passed in 2016, which focuses on strengthening structural approaches to health promotion and improving health equity, various funding initiatives by the BMBF and BMG, as well as the current impact of the Corona pandemic, have provided new starting points for an intensified structural constitution of sports science as a practical science in the field of Public Health. On this basis, the dvs expert workshop aims to enable a transdisciplinary exchange of experiences with stakeholders from sports science, health sciences and public health, including politics and practice, regarding the status quo and development perspectives of “Physical Activity, Research and Public Health.”

The agenda for the workshop can be found here.
