Physical Literacy and Children Enrichment

The PLACE (Physical Literacy and Children Enrichment) project addresses the problem that a large number of physical activity opportunities had to be cancelled for children (e.g., physical education classes, sports clubs) in the past two years due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Given this circumstance, it must be assumed that cohorts of children have grown up that were not able to acquire the skills and qualifications necessary to lead healthy physically active lifestyles. The present intervention project attempts to target the motivational, cognitive (e.g., knowledge) and physical requirements of children by drawing on the holistic concept of “physical literacy”, which has already gained considerable attention in the international context. The goal of the PLACE project is to: develop an age-specific intervention concept based on PL (goal 1), to implement the intervention concept in cooperation with schools in Bremen (goal 2), to evaluate the effect of the intervention on children’s PL (goal 3) and, in the case of a successful evaluation, to prepare the dissemination of the intervention concept (scale-up strategy).
