Development and implementation of competence-oriented exercise therapy to foster physical activity-related health competence among rehabilitands

Modern exercise therapy concepts address the empowerment of rehabilitands for the initiation as well as maintenance of physically active lifestyles and, therefore, stand in line with the modern rehabilitation strategies aiming at individual empowerment. The promotion of individuals’ physical activity-related health competence (PAHCO) is one of the priorities of such psychosocial exercise therapy concepts. However, the implementation and realization is not state-of-the-art in most institutions of medical rehabilitation in Germany (see the project BewegtheReha). The project STABEKO focuses the participatory development and implementation as well as evaluation of a competence-oriented exercise therapy in three Bavarian rehabilitation hospitals. The participatory research and development approach highlights exchange between practitioners (e.g., therapists, physicians) and scientists.
The first focus of the project refers to the realization and analysis of the participatory development and participation of competence-oriented exercise therapy. The second focus refers to the evaluation of the effectiveness of revised exercise therapy in regard to the promotion of PAHCO. Finally, we develop a transfer and scaling concept in cooperation with therapists, hospital directors and funding agencies, comprising concrete realization strategies for a large-scale implementation of competence-oriented exercise therapy in institutions of medical rehabilitation as well as a dissemination strategy.
